Tutorial 1: Constant offset between picture and sound

3. Checking the synchronous run

Using the preview

You check the synchronous run of picture and sound by means of the preview function. The appropriate controls are located in the lower region of the main window:

Position selector

By means of this sliding control you navigate across the video. You can drag it with the mouse or (more exactly) using the arrow keys <- and ->. The video frame which you select in this way is called your current position.

Preview controls

In the input field on the right you define, for how many seconds around the current position the preview should be calculated. A value of 2 s, for example, creates a preview with a length of four seconds, in which the current frame appears after two seconds.

After a click on Vorschau-Button the preview video is generated and is played as an infinite loop. A further click on this button terminates the preview mode.

Playback the video in the preview

Choose in the input field in the preview creation area a time window of ± 10 seconds, then press the button with the green arrow. AV Adjust thereupon calculates and shows a preview file which is playing theoretically from 10 seconds before until 10 seconds after the current position. Because the video NAGEL.AVI is however only 8 seconds long, the preview plays the whole project.

You see how a nail is driven in a board, and you also hear the blows. But - the noises come much later than the picture. This is the time offset between picture and sound which is to be corrected.
